Westminster Canterbury COVID-19 Update-August 25, 2021

FROM: John Burns, President and CEO, and Will Blackwell, Vice President Health Services

SUBJECT: COVID-19 Update

DATE: August 25, 2021

Since the end of July, when transmission rates of the Delta variant of COVID-19 began to increase in our area, Westminster Canterbury Richmond has seen a small number of breakthrough cases of COVID-19 in fully vaccinated individuals. Currently, three employees and one Independent Living resident have tested positive and remain in quarantine. Thankfully, the risk of exposure to others from these individuals is low. Everyone who may have been exposed has been contacted directly and tested for COVID-19.

On Tuesday, August 24, a resident who is temporarily residing in Mary Morton Parsons Health Center tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from the hospital. Based on guidance from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), all new admissions to Parsons Health Center will be placed in quarantine with additional contact precautions upon entry. New admissions will be tested for COVID-19 and remain under these precautions until a negative test result is received.

Westminster Canterbury follows the latest guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and VDH.
