Celebrating Our Veterans and Their Stories

Veterans Day is a day to celebrate and pay respect to all who have served our country in the military, including many of Westminster Canterbury Richmond’s residents who helped secure our rights to freedom.

Today we share our annual David F. Peters Lecture, featuring author Heath Hardage Lee, and celebrate the unique connections her story has to our community. Heath, the daughter of a Westminster Canterbury resident, authored the prize-winning book, The League of Wives: The Untold Story of the Women Who Took on the U.S. Government to Bring Their Husbands Home from Vietnam. One of the wives featured in the book is Phyllis Galanti, the late wife of resident Paul Galanti. Phyllis fought to facilitate her husband’s freedom after he became a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

In this lecture, Heath speaks to the incredible history captured in her book and shares a conversation with Paul about his experiences. We hope you will enjoy the lecture and reflect on the incredible sacrifices made by those who serve in our military.
