Congratulations to Christopher Carney, 2024 Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Award Recipient!

Award recipient Chris Carney with The Rev. Stephen Y. McGehee, Westminster Canterbury Foundation Vice Chair (left) and John Burns, Westminster Canterbury Richmond President and CEO. The portrait behind them is Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans.

Each year, Westminster Canterbury Richmond celebrates the birthday anniversary of Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans (1872-1953) to honor our greatest benefactor. Mrs. Evans’ foundations have given more than $14 million throughout our 49-year history to support Westminster Canterbury Foundation’s Fellowship Program, which provides housing, meals, medical care and life-enriching programming to nearly 100 seniors in need who otherwise could not afford to live here.

We honor Mrs. Evans’ legacy with the annual presentation of the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Award. This is Westminster Canterbury’s highest honor and recognizes leaders whose service has significantly advanced our mission.

This year’s award recipient was Christopher M. Carney. Chris has advanced the mission of Westminster Canterbury Foundation through his dedicated service as Trustee and Chair. Under his leadership, the Foundation’s highly successful Vibrant Vision fundraising campaign was launched. Chris played an invaluable role in guiding our organization to envision Westminster Canterbury’s future through strategic planning. We were honored to have Dr. Danny Avula as our guest speaker at the award presentation. Dr. Avula shares Chris’ ability to imagine the future and make it a reality.
