Our Gratitude to Veterans – Veterans Day 2022

Our sincere appreciation extends to all Veterans – particularly those who live and work at Westminster Canterbury Richmond. The freedom we each enjoy and rely upon is in great measure a gift from you.

During Memorial Day 2007, a group of Westminster Canterbury Resident Veterans swapped war stories with obvious camaraderie and mutual respect. A committee of seven veterans formed to collect stories and photos. From this effort grew a remarkable book, War Stories, sharing military history, primarily of World War II.  Of the committee of seven, only two remain – Edward Reeves Adams (102 years old) and Wilana Kemp Madden (101 years old).  Ed Adams chaired the effort and remembers it and the collaborative spirit of the group as one of the highlights of his life.

These individually told stories share details about which the men and women rarely spoke. After the publication, many family members commented that they never understood or knew what their loved ones experienced. War Stories is a profound gift of unselfish remembrance.

Though most of the copies of the originally published War Stories are well worn by readers and collectors, this digital version is now available. You are invited to read or browse the pages ABOVE, or click the link that appears below the book.

On Veteran’s Day 2022, we honor the men and women featured in War Stories, and all Veterans known and unknown, realizing with humility the debt of gratitude we can never repay – perhaps except through living with civility and deep gratitude with one another in this land we love.
