Westminster Canterbury COVID-19 Update-September 10, 2021

FROM: John Burns, President and CEO, and Will Blackwell, Vice President Health Services

SUBJECT: COVID-19 Update

DATE: September 10, 2021

Since the end of July, when transmission rates of the Delta variant of COVID-19 began to increase in our area, Westminster Canterbury Richmond has seen a small number of breakthrough cases of COVID-19 in fully vaccinated individuals. Today, we learned that a fully vaccinated nurse who works in Mary Morton Parsons Health Center has tested positive for COVID-19. Employees are required to wear a mask, so the risk of exposure to others is low. However, per guidelines from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), residents who live in Parsons Health Center Third Floor West and East will be under quarantine until Thursday, September 23. All residents and staff in Parsons Health Center will be tested for COVID-19 every three to seven days during the quarantine period.

Visitors to Parsons Health Center Third Floor West and East will be required to wear personal protective equipment during the quarantine period until Thursday, September 23.

Currently, a total of four employees and one Parsons Health Center resident have tested positive and remain in quarantine. Thankfully, the risk of exposure to others from these individuals is low. Everyone who may have been exposed has been contacted directly and tested for COVID-19.

Westminster Canterbury follows the latest guidance from CMS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH). Thank you for your support as we all work together to keep our community safe and healthy.
