Westminster Canterbury Next Steps-June 18, 2021
Westminster Canterbury Richmond follows the latest guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH). We are pleased to announce additional steps forward as we end certain coronavirus restrictions.
Screening Procedure Changes
Beginning Friday, June 18, 2021, some screening requirements will change. All staff and contractors are required to continue being screened at the Avalon Entrance prior to reporting to work daily. Visitors who plan to enter healthcare areas including Mary Morton Parsons Health Center, Assisted Living, Rehab and the Clinic must be screened at the Avalon Entrance and receive a wristband. This is a CMS regulation that we must adhere to at this time. Those visiting only Independent Living and non-healthcare areas of the community are no longer required to be screened. Independent Living residents assume the risk of allowing visitors into their apartment without screening. Please discourage those who may be experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 from visiting until they recover.
Masking Guidance and Employee Updates
Fully vaccinated Independent Living residents and outside visitors may choose whether to be masked in public settings around our community. Masks are required for nonvaccinated individuals. Parsons Health Center, Assisted Living, Rehab and the Clinic are considered healthcare settings. Masks are required for anyone visiting in these areas. Masks are also required for parents and visitors to the Child Development Center.
Effective July 1, 2021, fully vaccinated employees will be allowed to unmask in the building unless they are in a healthcare area or the Child Development Center. Some fully vaccinated individuals may choose to continue wearing a mask out of an abundance of caution.
Effective September 1, 2021, all employees will be required to be fully vaccinated unless they have health or religious reasons that preclude them from being vaccinated. We are allowing this period of time so that employees who are not already vaccinated will have time to talk to their healthcare providers and seek additional education on the vaccine.
