Westminster Canterbury Richmond Breaks Ground On Our Long-Anticipated Vibrancy! Expansion
On Thursday, June 9, John Burns, President and CEO of Westminster Canterbury Richmond, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to usher in the highly anticipated official kick-off of the Vibrancy! expansion. This approximately $200 million project will add beautiful and spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments with an array of upscale design elements, as well as the new Vital Living Center, within the Westminster Canterbury campus.

Addressing the attendees at the ceremony, Burns said, “The Vibrancy! project is an extremely exciting new era for Westminster Canterbury.” This expansion and enhancement of the Westminster Canterbury campus adds 42 Vitality Apartments above the new, state-of-the-art Fitness and Aquatic Centers. But that’s just the beginning. “We’ll also see 76 new Village Apartments and a Clubhouse here by the pond. This investment assures that Westminster Canterbury will remain the leader in senior living in central Virginia.”
Also participating in the groundbreaking ceremony was Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas, who helped assemble the team to navigate Westminster Canterbury through the governmental processes. “This is the type of project that makes us feel really good to be able to help with,” Vithoulkas said. “This is an absolute dream team you have here at Westminster Canterbury Richmond. It has been my pleasure working with them.”
As if groundbreaking for the Vibrancy! expansion wasn’t exciting enough, Westminster Canterbury’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing Stacey Nannery made things even more so. At the ceremony, it was announced that Stacey and her team had already taken deposits on 113 of the 118 new apartments. “In case you’re trying to do the math in your head,” Burns says, “that’s right at 96% sold.”
Love from the incoming depositors
Tom Schultz and Ann Gray Harvey understand the math completely. The couple were first on the Priority Depositor list for the expansion and the first to choose and reserve their Vibrancy! apartment. “We learned about this project and told them to let us know when they were taking names because we wanted to be first on the list,” Tom says. “We’re looking forward to meeting new people and having some great adventures.”
Fellow depositor Sandy Dallas agrees. “As long as I’ve been in Richmond,” Sandy says, “I’ve heard about Westminster Canterbury. It has a sterling reputation, and it’s in a location around Ginter Park I like, as it’s close to the city. When the Vibrancy! expansion was announced, they had an apartment available with a small garden and a den that I can use as an office. All these things helped solidify my decision to move here.”
