Westminster Canterbury Richmond Video Update to Residents-March 28, 2020-10 a.m.

Westminster Canterbury Richmond is keeping our residents up-to-date on the latest news related to our COVID-19 response. Hear these encouraging words from our 10 a.m. live update to residents from John Burns, President and CEO; and Lynn McClintock, Director Pastoral Care. The next update will be Monday at 3 p.m.

The following updates were shared during the live briefing on TV970.

John Burns

We are pleased to share the fabulous news that our resident with the confirmed COVID-19 case who was being treated at VCU Health has improved enough to return to campus. He is being cared for in Parsons Health Center, where staff are diligently following infection control procedures and precautions. This resident has a long road to recovery, but we are so grateful that he is on the road to wellness, receiving therapy and nursing care. Please keep him in your prayers.

Our clinical team spent time with Dr. Danny Avula from the Richmond and Henrico Health Departments yesterday. They discussed our continued strategy and planning, especially over the next few weeks when cases of COVID-19 in the Richmond region are expected to increase. Dr. Avula stressed the importance of staying vigilant in social distancing, repeated and vigorous handwashing, staying inside the campus and keeping ourselves emotionally, spiritually and physically well.

Westminster Canterbury leadership is working to keep our community safe and well. The hard work is on our residents to continue staying in their apartments and maintaining social distancing and self-quarantine practices. We need to be prepared that the situation outside our gates will get worse before it gets better. Being diligent in these measures will help us win in the battle to contain these infections, both for Westminster Canterbury and the broader community.

Residents received a memo from resident physicians in their mailboxes yesterday. Sam Fuller, Don Switz, Bob Scott and Larry Thomas led the effort to write the memo and garner support from physicians who live here, work on the Westminster Canterbury team, and serve on the Corporate and Foundation Boards. They support our efforts in social distancing and encourage everyone to follow these practices.

Please continue what you’re doing, staying in your apartments – watch movies, read books, explore the digital tours and tools on Touchtown Community Apps, and connect with friends and loved ones by phone, Skype and Facebook. This is what keeps our campus and our region safe. Thank you!

There will be no live briefing on Sunday. Beginning Monday, one live briefing will be held weekdays at 3 p.m.

Though the fig tree does not bud

and there are no grapes on the vines,

though the olive crop fails

and the fields produce no food,

though there are no sheep in the pen

and no cattle in the stalls,

yet I will rejoice in the Lord,

I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Prayer

Gracious and loving God, it is so easy to feel our losses right now, because they are pervasive and so sudden. Help us to trust that you can give us joy in the midst of struggle and peace in the midst of disruption. When we feel like we need something—let us know that we need you. In your name we pray. Amen.
