Live Update to Residents-June 1, 2020
Daily Live updates to residents on our in-house TV970 keep us informed and connected. Today’s update featured John Burns, President and CEO; Glendon Kemp, Manager of Security; and Lynn McClintock, Director Pastoral Care.
The following updates were shared during the live briefing on TV970.
John Burns
Nationally, there are 1.76 million cases of COVID-19 and 103,700 deaths. As of today, the COVID-19 data for Virginia includes:
• 322,568 people have been tested for COVID-19. Positive cases total 45,398, with 791 new cases since yesterday.
• The rolling seven-day positivity rate in Virginia is 11.8% (a decrease of 0.6%), Henrico is 13% (decrease of 0.4%) and Richmond is 13.6% (decrease of 0.5%).
• In total, 4,694 people have been hospitalized to date.
• There have been 1,392 deaths associated with COVID-19.
• There have been 214 outbreaks in long-term care facilities in Virginia, including 4,920 cases and 785 deaths.
Parsons Health Center
Beginning last week, we completed required COVID-19 testing of all Parsons Health Center residents. All test results came back negative, which is great news. Parsons Health Center is regulated by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). We recently received guidance regarding steps to prepare for relaxing the current restrictions, which allowed no visitors except for end of life situations. The first step was to get a negative test result for all Parsons Health Center residents. We received these negative test results yesterday. The second step is to design a structured, safe visitation process for the state to review, which will be ready soon. Westminster Canterbury plans to be ready for visitation when the restriction is lifted.
Next Steps
Today, June 1, marked Step Two of Westminster Canterbury’s Next Steps. The Fitness Center and Aquatic Center are available for limited hours by appointment only. Outpatient Rehab resumed on a limited basis. The Tunes on Tuesday series featuring live music from VCU Jazz performers begins Tuesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. on the Ellipse. Please remember to practice social distancing, practice staying away from one another and wear your mask when in the building and near others outdoors. These are the most important behaviors for everyone to follow to stay well.
Step Three begins Monday, June 8. More details will be shared later this week. Beginning Monday, June 8, Independent Living residents may leave campus for essential personal business and medical appointments. Management will not define what is essential. Rather, residents will determine what is essential for them. While residents are considered safer at home, if they choose to leave campus, they should wear a mask, practice social distancing at all times and wash their hands frequently. If you feel unwell, please stay home and self-quarantine until you can be seen by the Clinic or your physician.

Resident Vehicle Service
If your vehicle needs service, please follow these steps.
• If you have a dead battery, contact Ethan Wilburn, Transportation Supervisor, at ext. 6263, to coordinate getting your battery jumped by Westminster Canterbury staff.
• If your vehicle needs gas, you may fill it beginning June 8 when residents are permitted to travel off campus for essential business. It recommended to wear gloves and sanitize your hands after pumping gas.
• If you have other service needs such as bodywork, mechanical issues or inspection, you have two options. If your service tech can come to campus, you may make arrangements beginning this week. Call Glendon Kemp, Manager Security, at ext. 6079, for assistance. If your service tech cannot come to campus to pick up your vehicle, you may take it off campus beginning June 8 if you consider it an essential task.
Economic Stimulus Debit Cards
Some Economic Impact Payments from the IRS are coming as debit cards instead of checks or direct deposits. It arrives in a plain envelope from “Money Network Cardholder Services.” Please be careful not to throw this away.
