Visitation Guidelines (Updated April 15, 2021)

Westminster Canterbury Richmond is open to visitation in all areas of living from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Seniors are among the populations most vulnerable to the coronavirus, so please continue with an abundance of caution when making decisions about how and when to visit loved ones. Millions of vaccinations have been administered to nursing home residents and staff. These vaccines have been shown to help prevent symptomatic COVID-19 infection.

As circumstances change or positive cases of COVID-19 are confirmed, visitation guidelines in specific areas may change quickly. Please check www.WCRICHMOND.org for the latest information when planning your visit.

Do not visit if you have any of these symptoms: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or other new signs of illness.

All Visitors

  • Enter through the left lane of the Gatehouse.
  • All Visitor Screening takes place at the Avalon Entrance (see map). Visitors should pull up to the Avalon Entrance, be screened, return to their vehicle, park near the location of their visit and proceed directly to their visit.
  • For Screening: Visitors are required to have a temperature check and question screening upon arrival. If visitors have a temperature above 100 degrees Fahrenheit or have      COVID-19-related symptoms, they may not be permitted to visit that day. Please answer screening questions honestly. After question screening and temperature check, visitors will receive a wristband indicating they have been screened.
  • Visitors must wear a mask at all times, wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer and always maintain social distancing of at least six feet.
  • Children are only permitted if they are able to wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing.
  • Visitation is only permitted in resident apartments and outside. Visitation in public spaces, dining rooms and lobby areas is not permitted. Please follow signage and take the most direct path to the location of your visit.
  • Outdoor visitation is encouraged and preferred when possible as there is reduced risk of transmission with increased space and airflow.
  • Visit only one household per visit to our community.
  • Visitors are not required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 but are encouraged to be vaccinated as soon as they have the opportunity.
  • Visitors are not required to be tested for COVID-19. Visitors may choose to receive a rapid test for COVID-19 when they arrive to the screening area. Visitors traveling from out of state are encouraged to get a rapid test before visiting.
  • If the resident is fully vaccinated, they can choose to have close contact (including touch) with their visitor while wearing a well-fitting mask and performing hand hygiene before and after. Visitors should physically distance from other residents and staff in the facility.
  • Please contact us if you develop symptoms or test positive within two weeks after your visit.

Independent Living Visitation

Independent Living visitation in resident apartments will be determined by the resident based on the size of the apartment and the ability to maintain social distancing. Independent Living visitation is no longer limited to two people in apartments. Outdoor visitation is encouraged.

For overnight visitors, preregistration and a negative COVID-19 test result are no longer required. Overnight visitation should be determined by the residents in the same way as daily visitors, based on social distancing and the comfort level of the resident. Visitors must be screened at the Avalon Entrance upon each arrival to campus and sign in and out at the reception desk. For emergency procedures it is important to have a record of who is staying on campus overnight.

Assisted Living Visitation – Avalon, The Gables and Monticello

Please check in on arrival and departure.

  • The Gables and Monticello – Visitation in residents’ apartments in The Gables and Monticello is limited to one person at a time to ensure social distancing. Groups of two or more may visit outside or schedule a visit by contacting:

Mary Morton Parsons Health Center Visitation

Please check in at the nurses station upon arrival and departure. Visitation in residents’ rooms is limited to one person at a time to ensure social distancing. Reservations for groups of two or more may be scheduled outdoors by contacting Carrie Martin at (804) 264-6276 or cmartin@wcrichmond.org. Please check www.WCRICHMOND.org prior to your visit in case regular visitation is temporarily suspended. Compassionate visits may be scheduled by contacting the Administrator, nurse manager or social worker when regular visitation is suspended.
