Holiday Spectacular Sing-Fest

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” Although Buddy the Elf is a fictional character from the 2003 movie, Elf, he offers heartwarming holiday advice worth following.

Together with our friends at Senior Connections Friendship Café, Westminster Canterbury Foundation staff and volunteers sang beloved Christmas songs this past week to celebrate the season and success of the Foundation’s Fellowship Outreach Program. On the last Thursday of every month for the past nine months, teams from Westminster Canterbury Richmond have led education and engagement sessions at the Friendship Café at Guardian Place, an affordable senior living community located on the UMFS campus. Through these sessions, we bring more mission to more people outside of our walls by serving seniors-in-need in greater Richmond.

Programming support is one of two efforts we make each month to serve our café friends.  Westminster Canterbury Richmond at Home also provides an educational health segment as well as one-on-one health screenings and consults with café members.

More than anything, the Friendship Café is a place for seniors-in-need to experience new learning and enjoy socializing with others.  By providing new and interesting engagement activities and education, Westminster Canterbury informs and increases awareness about senior wellness and vibrant living.  We build friendships and trust.  Thanks to our incredible staff who offer their support each month, the café members have come to know us, consider us their friends and trust us enough to seek out health screenings and advice. Each session also provides a new opportunity for our employees to make new friends and serve others.

On behalf of our café friends at Senior Connections Friendship Café and Westminster Canterbury Foundation, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  Check out the scenes from our Holiday Spectacular Sing-Fest!
