National Volunteer Week

Westminster Canterbury Richmond is celebrating National Volunteer Week from April 23 – 29, 2017.  This week was designated in 1974 to thank volunteers across the nation who are change-makers that lend their time, talent, voice and support to causes they care about in the community.

Celebrations in honor of our donors started earlier this week with a Resident Dessert Party on our Roof Terrace on Tues., April 25.  Our resident volunteers gave over 25,700 hours in 2016 in various areas including Pastoral Care, Dining Services, Floor Representatives, Flower Room, Forum, Historical Records, Libraries, Performing Arts, Recreation, Recycling, Technology, The Shops on Main, Arts & Crafts and Wellness.  Others volunteers serve as Art Angels, Breakfast Buddies, Gift Shop Associates, Sewing Group, Small Crafts, The Salvation Army Knitters and in the Child Development Center.

Our non-resident volunteers gave over 12,100 hours in 2016 in various areas including Focus Listening Companions, Gift Shop Associates, Office Support, Pet Therapy Visitors, Recreation, Friendly Visitors, Ride Around and Theater Ushers.  Our 2016 Summer Teen Program had more than 30 teens over the age of 14 that volunteered across campus.  We will finish our National Volunteer Week celebrations on Wed., May 3 with a reception and an invitation to attend the Sara Belle November Theater performance of Golden Dragon Acrobats.

We thank all our dedicated volunteers who make the world a brighter place at Westminster Canterbury Richmond.  If you are looking to add a new dimension to your life, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Kathy Morton, at kmorton@wcrichmond.org or call (804) 261-5201. Applications for  summer teen volunteers are being accepted through May 31, 2017.  Visit www.wcrichmond.org and complete a Volunteer application.

If you are a volunteer, we thank you for your dedicated service to Westminster Canterbury Richmond!
